POWER
TO MASS YOUTH
What
a day!!! May 31st was incredible! No if, ands, or buts about
it! If you check out the photos and newspaper articles below
you’ll see exactly what we’re talking about. The teens who came
out represented all the regions of Massachusetts ! After talking
in discussion groups, we eventually voted on the three biggest
issues/concerns around tobacco. It got even better when Dr.
Lois Keithly, a public official from the Department of Public
Health, agreed to work with some teens to try to fix these issues. Check
out the letter we blew up to over 6 feet tall, signed and gave
to her below. The top three concerns we picked are:
- Family and
friends smoke and are at risk of disease and death,
- Target
marketing of poor people, people of color and youth, and
- Younger
kids are exposed to second hand smoke and unhealthy role modeling.
People
shared personal stories, the DJ was spinning non-stop, people
were dancing, and everyone was friendly. If you weren’t there,
come out the next time The 84 gets together
from around the state. And if you can’t wait to be a part of
something big like this, click on the links below:
