POWER TO MASS YOUTH

What a day!!! May 31st was incredible! No if, ands, or buts about it! If you check out the photos and newspaper articles below you’ll see exactly what we’re talking about. The teens who came out represented all the regions of Massachusetts !  After talking in discussion groups, we eventually voted on the three biggest issues/concerns around tobacco. It got even better when Dr. Lois Keithly, a public official from the Department of Public Health, agreed to work with some teens to try to fix these issues. Check out the letter we blew up to over 6 feet tall, signed and gave to her below. The top three concerns we picked are:

  •  Family and friends smoke and are at risk of disease and death,
  •  Target marketing of poor people, people of color and youth, and
  •  Younger kids are exposed to second hand smoke and unhealthy role modeling.

People shared personal stories, the DJ was spinning non-stop, people were dancing, and everyone was friendly. If you weren’t there, come out the next time The 84 gets together from around the state. And if you can’t wait to be a part of something big like this, click on the links below:
