Face
Reality
“Smoking
makes you sexy.” “Use chew and you’ll be manly.” “Don’t
worry, smoking won’t kill you!” These are some of the subtle
messages that tobacco companies use to advertise their products.
But that’s not the truth! Come to this workshop to see the
myths that tobacco companies promote and learn ways to expose
the truth.
Another
Addictive Trap
The
tobacco companies are always coming out with new products to
get people hooked. Black and Milds, blunt wraps, hookahs,
and flavored cigarettes are just a few of these products that
are different from cigarettes but just as dangerous. Come
learn about other products that contain tobacco!
It’s
That Simple
Do
you care about getting friends and family to stop smoking or
not to start using tobacco products? Are you speaking out
about it both in small ways? You’re a YOUTH ADVOCATE and you
may not even know it! Being an advocate is simple, and we’ll
show you just how easy it is in this workshop. (for beginner
anti-tobacco advocates)
I
Got Skillz
Being
an advocate on any issue you care about is simple, but it helps
to have a few skills that you can call on when you’re stuck.
Public speaking, communicating with political leaders and
officials, doing community outreach—these are all a few of the
tools which can make you an even more powerful advocate than
you already are! See what skills you can gain in this workshop.
(for experienced anti-tobacco advocates)
Tobacco
Hits the Big Screen
Do
you notice that lots of actors, actresses, music artists, and
famous people use tobacco products onscreen and in the media?
It’s another way for tobacco companies to get their products
advertised without breaking any laws. Research shows that
tobacco use in the entertainment industry has a big effect on
youth starting to smoke. What can YOU do about it?
Let’s
Find a Way
Does
your parent, uncle, or grandmother smoke? Have you been trying
to get them to quit for your whole life? There are some resources
out there for adults to get support in quitting, but not everyone
knows about them. In this workshop, we’ll share experiences
of talking to adults in your life about quitting and strategies
that you can use to encourage them to start on their way to
a tobacco-free life!
Passing
On the Truth
Do
you want to teach your peers and younger kids about tobacco
issues but you’re running out of good ideas on how to do this?
Or do you have some great ideas to share? This workshop
will give you some new activities and tips on doing a great
“Tobacco 101” workshop. Goodbye, boring presentation. Hello,
fun learning!
