FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can be on the YAG?
The YAG is made up of 18-20 high school
students from across Massachusetts. We want the group to have
diversity in terms of race, gender, age, region of the state,
type of town or city (urban to rural), and even experience with
tobacco issues. You don't have to be a tobacco control expert
to be a part of this group. All you need is a desire to build
your skills, a desire to work with a group of youth, and the
drive to take the initiative on projects you care about.
What
does the YAG do?
The
YAG is divided into subcommittees based on work areas. As of
now, we have two main subcommittees: one to work on planning
a youth meeting in the early spring and one to help develop
a youth website. There will be other projects that arise throughout
the year and more subcommittees may be added.
How
does the YAG communicate?
There are monthly face-to-face meetings one Saturday of every
month from October through June. The meetings are held in both
Boston and Worcester to try to keep it as central to the whole
state as possible. Email and conference phone calls are another
way to keep in touch in between the face-to-face meetings. We
have a lot of work ahead of us, so need to be in constant contact!
What
else do I need to know?
There
will be a stipend (payment) based on work completed (not an
hourly wage). The commitment will go from October until June,
with about 8-10 hours of work each month. Check out the YAG
agreement for more on expectations of attendance and other issues.
Make the commitment because you can and you want to, not just
because you want to build your resume.
